At 1.1 cm in length, the prominent Zincolivenite crystal on this thumbnail specimen from Tsumeb mine has to be one of the best in the world for the species. Yes, there may well be other slightly larger Zincolivenite crystals out there, but this one combines size with exceptional colour along with a magnificent crystal shape. Sat along with a bed of other smaller (1.5 to 5 mm) crystals, this Zincolivenite is enchanting. Its colour is a deep emerald-green which is very fine, but it is its internal translucency and the play of light which really makes this crystal so alluring. The effect is akin to internal mirrors of green foil, producing an almost unreal appearance for a mineral. A truly magnificent Tsumeb thumbnail and a worldclass crystal of this very rare species too. This will make some collector very happy indeed. Ex Weyand collection.
