Hopeite is a very rare hydrated zinc phosphate mineral first found in Belgium in 1823 but later (after 1906) discovered in exceptionally rich, and large, crystals at Broken Hill mine, Kabwe, Central Province, Zambia which remain to this day the world's best. The crystals at Broken Hill can vary significantly in colour and form. This lovely miniature-sized specimen features rounded but very well-formed orange-brown orthorhomic crystals richly covering one end/edge of a thin piece of greyish-white massive matrix. The individual crystals reach 8 mm in length and are in excellent condition all round. This is an early- to mid-20th century classic and perfect for someone wanting a really well-crystallized Hopeite for their systematic collection.
