Featuring a superb cluster of deepest, royal blue, cavansite with iridescent luster on a matrix of powder-white mordenite (much more rare than calcite or stilbite as the matrix, this snow white material provides the ultimate contrast!), this specimen is a wonderful example of the excellent contrast and quality produced from the finds in India. Amongst the fibrous white mordenite matrix, several tiny stilbite crystals poke through the 6.4-cm-long string of cavansite crystals atop. It has been professionally trimmed for the best possible display, and features an exceptionally elongated cluster of cavansite that is not commonly seen these days. Discovered in 1967 in Oregon, Cavansite is a relatively rare mineral that has since been recovered in fairly large volumes from the Deccan Traps in India, which have provided, by far, the finest specimens of the species. Despite the large amount of the finds since the 2007, truly great specimens remain uncommon. Out of all the cavansite specimens we have seen over the years, those of the best blue against the white mordenite, such as this, make for the most dramatic of all.
