The quality of this small miniature individual Tantalite-(Fe) crystal is remarkable. Not only is this a rare species but it is extremely rare in well-formed crystals, let alone larger perfectly formed crystals like this. Like a mini-skyscraper, the crystal rises up like a wide blade with extremely fine reflective faces and a fantastic pyramidal sloping termination. Its rear face is one large flat surface, but with undulating growth features. It is not from a specific tantalum deposit but from a famous gem pegmatite occurrence in Minas Gerais state, Brazil - Córrego do Limoeiro claim, Virgem da Lapa. This really is an excellent Tantalite-(Fe) crystal. From the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
