When you think of the Elmwood Mine, it is likely to conjure images of spectacular Fluorites or some of the most recognizable Calcite crystals to come from any American locality. This specimen, however, opts for much rarer, massive cubes of Galena across a towering matrix of rich Sphalerite clusters. Most of the Galena is arranged across the center of the specimen, reaching a whopping 4.1 centimeters across, making it the primary focus of this piece. Each cube is sharply formed and complete all around, complemented with a bright metallic luster and mirror-like quality. The faces of the Galena crystals are nicely textured and, while sporting a signature steel-grey hue, have a light metallic-brown color and a few isolated splotches of blue. The Sphalerite, a classic association of most Elmwood specimens, has a strong glassy luster and subsurficial gemminess, which gives a nice sparkling backdrop to the Galena. Additional, albeit minor, associations of white Quartz druze are dispersed towards the top and back sides of the specimen. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
