New discovery 2023 in Mali for this association of two varieties of garnets.
These are two varieties of Andradite Garnet, the rather amber-colored heart is Grandite now called Andradite-Grossulaire Series, and the black exterior is Melanite, a black titaniferous variety of Andradite.
Several hypotheses have been put forward concerning their formation, the most plausible and most repetitive by people who have the knowledge is this one: first the heart was formed, then Calcite, then Melanite formed around it. All this then underwent a dissolution which completely made the Calcite disappear and leaves traces of dissolution especially in the heart directly affected, but also on certain faces of Melanite.
This Garnet is complete, it is perfectly formed with the Melanite with clean faces, truncated edges, and the heart of grandiite brighter with these orange-red reflections.
