A fine pair of twinned Diaspore (aluminium oxide hydroxide) crystals from the classic locality in Selçuk District, Izmir Province, Turkey. The crystals are very wide, and measure an impressive 6.5 and 5.0 cm tall, emanating from a common base to form a ‘V’-twin. The Diaspore varies from transparent to translucent, the majority being gooseberry green with a silver shimmer tending to light lime green in transmitted light. All surfaces are brightly reflective with almost a metallic lustre, but somewhat gemmy within. Both Diaspore crystals are terminated, although there is chipping around some of the edges. The prism faces on both sides display fine vertical striations that enhance the appearance of the twinning by highlighting the line and angle of contact.
