MATTHEDDLEITE with Cerussite Caledonite and Baryte
Unknown Owner
This thumbnail specimen contains one of the real rare species from the Caldbeck Fells in the English Lake District. Full of secondary lead species, several cavities are seen under high magnification to contain tiny glassy colourless acicular Mattheddleite crystals. Pale turquoise blue Caledonite is also present. The presence of Baryte indicated on the previous collectors label is unlikely, but several areas appear to show the platy, sectile habit of Leadhillite. A really rich example of Mattheddleite from a classic British occurrence.
