It is rare to get an attractive sulphosalt mineral, but that is exactly what this specimen is. This beautiful large miniature to small cabinet specimen displays, mounted upright on an acrylic base, a cluster of dark grey, metallic, rounded Miargyrite crystal aggregates from the San Genaro mine, Peru. The aggregates, which reach 2 cm in diameter, look like fish-scales, with masses of platy crystals, but also with a strong iridescence. Because of the quality, it is easy to forget that Miargyrite is a rare silver antimony sulphosalt and that this specimen is remarkable. The San Genaro mine has produced some of the world's finest Miargyrite specimens - many back in the 1970s - and this one is up there with the best. Rarity and aesthetics combined. Ex Marty Zinn and Don Zowader collections.
