Mounted vertically on its acrylic base, the wonderful colour, morphology, and surface texture of this magnificent gemmy Aquamarine Beryl crystal is both showstopping and breath-taking. From the rarely seen locality of Corrego Sao Francisco in Minas Gerais, Brazil, this 11 cm tall crystal is of the most delightful deep cornflower-blue, a shade uncommon in Aquamarine. The crystal is superbly gemmy, almost water-clear and although hexagonal in cross-section, is naturally highly etched to produce tactile stepped and smoothed surfaces culminating in a complex tapered termination. It has all the magnificence of a futuristic super-tall skyscraper! Adding interest and curiosity to the specimen, a hollow cavity extends downwards from the centre of the termination into the body of the prism by at least 1.5 cm and this could be deeper. Because of the etched texture and complexity of crystal faces, the crystal scatters light internally, producing a stunning luminosity which extends from glassy cornflower-blue to intense electric and neon-aquamarine. A classic and spectacular Aquamarine Beryl from Minas Gerais.
Etched aquamarine is a special category of aquamarine - the crystal shapes are unique, formed by thermal waters naturally eroding the surface of crystals which would otherwise be highly-geometric. This beautiful 11cm tall single crystal looks like an ice sculpture and is water-clear in a beautiful blue color.
