Pseudomalachite
A lovely miniature Pseudomalachite on and pervading a matrix of iron-stained milky Quartz veinstone from ?ubietov' in Bansk' Bystrica County, Slovakia. The old German name for ?ubietov' was Libethen, the type locality of Libethenite. Deep bluish green botryoidal Pseudomalachite forms a layer of between 0.5 and 1 cm thick, around the sides of which can be seen mild banding, similar to the structure of malachite. This specimen is characteristic of Pseudomalachite's colour, habit and matrix association from the ?ubietov' ore fields, one of Europe's most important copper deposits which has been worked since the Bronze age.
