Chalcocite
A richly adorned large miniature Chalcocite from one of Cornwall’s most mineralogically and historically celebrated mines, Levant, situated on the extreme southwestern rugged cliffs at Pendeen, north of St. Just. The specimen displays several lenticular pseudohexagonal crystals measuring to 0.6 cm, with two or three prismatic Chalcocite crystals. These are further enhanced by a later deposition of Chalcocite crystals which form a drusy coating. The Chalcocite sparkles deep blue with hints of purple red with a metallic lustre. The matrix is also Chalcocite which has mostly replaced Chalcopyrite, with some areas of Quartz. This specimen is accompanied with an extremely old label, highly faded and thought probably to date from the eighteen century, based on other labels I have seen from this period.
