Tucson, Arizona, USAMany bright metallic silvery to brassy bladed crystals of the rare gold telluride mineral Calaverite measuring to 4 mm are scattered over a sinter-like Quartz/Fluorite matrix from the Cresson mine at Cripple Creek District, Teller Co., Colorado, USA. Cresson mine is a large open pit mine between the towns of Cripple Creek and Victor and now goes by the rather inventive name of Cripple Creek & Victor gold mine. The Cripple Creek District, where gold tellurides constituted much of the gold ore, has provided much of the world's finest Calaverite crystals, most of which came from the void where this huge open pit sits. This is a particularly fine specimen and was formerly in one of the finest private mineral collections in Germany.
