Chondrodite with Magnetite$2,000.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
The Tilly Foster Iron mine at Brewster, Town of Southeast, Putnam Co., New York, USA is renowned for producing fine crystallized Chondrodite specimens. Two forms of Chondrodite are found there: glassy, dark orange-brown crystals; duller, pale orange-cream altered crystals. This small cabinet specimen is a fine example of the latter form. Large, matt, pale orange Chondrodite crystals to over 4 cm in length protrude from white Lizardite/Antigorite with small black Magnetite crystals in association. The back of the specimen is much richer in finer grained Magnetite as the main matrix. The Tilly Foster mine opened in 1853 but closed in 1897 following a serious accident resulting in the deaths of 13 miners. Specimens from the mine are highly collectible not least because of the unusual assemblage of species, but because of the history of the mine too. This is a really excellent display quality specimen of Chondrodrite with one of the classic forms known from Tilly Foster mine.
