A fine WHOPPER (2-cm) spessartine garnet, with sharp faces and superb luster, plunked down right in the center of the matrix, next to a partial quartz crystal. Good spessartines this size are really exceptional! You are accustomed to seeing a good supply of spessartines from CHina, but they are a mere fraction of this size.
