Freieslebenite is one of the iconic silver-bearing sulphosalts for which the historic Freiberg silver-mining region in Saxony is so famous, but it is also one the rarest of species to be seen from there. First described from the Himmelsfürst mine in the 1770s, specimens were subsequently found in several other mines locally in the Freiberg area, but these are so rarely seen nowadays. This extremely rich, very large miniature to very small cabinet piece from Francis Coune's collection in Belgium features several really sharp, well-formed dark grey Freieslebenite crystals exceptionally to 7 mm across with silvery prisms of Arsenopyrite with a cluster of large Calcite crystals on a bed of massive Siderite with Chalcopyrite. The Freieslebenite presents classic striated growth lines and a lovely sub-metallic to resinous lustre and are in wonderful condition.
