Attractive gemmy light pink lustrous terminated crystal of elbaite 2.0 cm in height standing straight up and free from a matrix of opaque white blocky albite crystals. Light purple crystals of lepidolite to 0.5 cm are attached to the sides of this elbaite crystal, as well as scattered about the albite crystal matrix. An attractive specimen, in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The pegmatites of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan formed through complex tectonic collisions between the Indian and Eurasian plates, generating intense heat and fluid activity within rugged high-altitude mountain terrain. These granitic pegmatite veins intrude deep metamorphic basement rocks across major valleys like Shigar, Skardu, and Hunza, creating ideal pockets for the crystallization of world-class mineral specimens. Commercial and artisanal mining relies heavily on manual extraction methods due to extreme elevations and short seasonal weather windows, making operations challenging. Despite these logistical hurdles, the region has become globally renowned for producing museum-quality crystals, including exceptionally clear aquamarine, multi-colored tourmalines, topaz, and fluorapatite, which are prized by collectors and gem traders worldwide.
