Fine thumbnail specimen, this a loose bright lustrous sharply formed crystal of almandine with little attached matrix. Complete all around and in great condition.
Located in the municipality of Sorfold in Nordland, Norway, the Buviknakken locality near Buvika features garnet-rich mica schist and felsic chlorite gneiss formed during regional metamorphism. The site is well known among mineral collectors for producing sharp, well-formed idiomorphic almandine crystals ranging from a few millimeters up to several centimeters in size. Following its discovery by Norwegian collectors in the early 1970s, the outcrop became a popular destination for field collectors seeking high-quality crystal specimens embedded directly in the matrix.
