Native Lead, or pure natural lead metal, is a really rather rare mineral occurrence, but the remarkable mineral deposit at Långban, Filipstad, Värmland, Sweden is one of the few places in the world where it is known. This example features a classic, thin, dull grey coating of slightly malleable Native Lead coating one side of a finely crystallized beige-coloured rock. This rock has not been identified, but appears slightly denser than typical rock and responds red under longwave UV light and orange under shortwave UV light. There is a chance that it is also one of the rarer species known from this fascinating geological site, but requires specialist Långban knowledge. Ex Hettrich Collection.
