Tourmaline from Aricanga mine, São José da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil

A magnificent cluster of multicolored elbaite tourmalines, nearly a foot tall and balanced on white bladed cleavelandite matrix, showing the immense potential of new mining claims in the Aricanga region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Many people may assume that Pederneira will forever be the king of Brazilian tourmaline localities among the past generation of collectors (such as myself), but this new mining development almost next door in the same geological (pegmatite) district shows real potential for the next generation of collectors to come! Luckily, each find, each mine, and even each pocket within a mine, is different. This is the largest example from its particular pocket and, like other large Brazilian tourmalines, is repaired professionally. We think there will be amazing years to come ahead of us, and are eagerly buying up and stashing supremely good examples as we can, because these deposits come and go quickly. Mined in 2023, this piece has a large size, huge visual impact, and 3-dimensional display quality that is good from all around at any angle.
