Ruby from Mogok Valley, Mogok Township, Mandalay Region, Myanmar

This is a 4-inch-tall ruby crystal majestically displayed on marble matrix from the famous mines of Mogok, Myanmar (formerly Burma). Such large specimens are almost impossibly rare in nature! When they are found, they are almost always found already destroyed from primitive blasting techniques, or broken up on purpose for carving rough. This is therefore one of the largest surviving intact crystals in good shape. Interestingly, it looks totally different when presented from either side. A majestic masterpiece with vivid color and dramatic shape, notably different on either side of the crystal so that which side is front is really a matter of personal choice.
