Deep blue crystals of kulanite to 0.3 cm in size across matrix with crystallized siderite and quartz. Good example for the species. In good condition. The geology of the Rapid Creek area in the Yukon, Canada, features Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, specifically iron-rich shales and sideritic iron-formations within the Rapid Creek Formation. These strata host unique secondary phosphate minerals that crystallized within fractures, joints, and bedding planes. Regarding its history, the region gained prominence among mineral collectors and prospectors following discoveries in the 1970s, notably by prospector Alan Kulan, which led to the establishment of Rapid Creek as the type locality for the rare mineral kulanite. Due to the remote and rugged nature of the northern Richardson Mountains, collecting activities have been historically challenging, requiring specialized expeditions to recover rare phosphate specimens from these weathering ironstones.
