This spectacular lattice-like style of gold crystallization was found in the late 1990s in a section of the large and old Olinghouse gold district. It was a bonanza for mineral collectors that came and went within a few years. Such specimens, today, are quite rarely seen for sale. This is more robust than most, with a dense crystalline network that looks like ivy going up a wall, and it is strong to the touch—not as fragile as it looks. Some Olinghouse golds were very nestlike, soft, and friable, easily shaken or broken. This, however, is a robust matrix specimen. A unique gold find in USA history, they still stand the test of time.
