Crude crystals of grossular measuring to 1.0 cm in size across the front of a white wollastonite matrix. Greenish brown crystals of actinolite are rich throughout. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that the piece was collected on January 16, 2022 from a skarn outcrop at the north end of the quarry.The Organ Mtn Quarry in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, exposes Permian age Hueco Group limestone formations that were historically mined for local cement production and construction materials. Geologically, the surrounding area features Paleozoic sedimentary rock units influenced by regional faulting and igneous intrusions tied to the mountain building history of the region. Although it is not a prominent site for mineral collecting relative to the nearby metal and fluorite mines of the Organ Mining District, the quarry offers valuable exposures for understanding the local stratigraphy and structural geology of southern New Mexico.
