A gemmy twinned colorless crystal of gypsum with some attached matrix. Complete all around and in great condition. Neat locality example for the species. The specimen comes with two previous collection labels, one from Ray DeMark in the other from Chris Cowan who collected the specimen. The Mason Tunnel is an underground mining feature located in the historic Fierro-Hanover mining district of Grant County, New Mexico. Geologically, this region is characterized by complex sedimentary and igneous rock formations that host rich metallic deposits, including valuable base metals formed through extensive hydrothermal activity and intrusive rock emplacement in the southwestern United States. Historically, the tunnel was driven into the mineralized terrain as part of the active 19th and 20th century underground extraction operations that defined the local mining economy near Hanover and the broader Santa Rita mineral belt.
