A grouping of glassy gem smoky quartz crystals with little attached matrix. In great condition all around. The specimen comes with two previous collection labels, one from Ray DeMark and the other from the British Museum of Natural History.Spitzberg in the Goschenen Valley along the Reuss Valley in Uri, Switzerland, is internationally renowned for its dramatic alpine geology featuring rugged granitic massifs shaped by intense tectonic activity. Within this high-altitude terrain, mineral-rich hydrothermal solutions circulating through open fissures over millions of years allowed world-class crystals of smoky quartz to slowly crystallize. Local prospectors and dedicated mineral collectors have a rich history of scaling these remote peaks to meticulously extract pristine, highly transparent smoky quartz specimens, making the region a legendary locality for alpine mineralogy.
