The early 2000s saw the first finds of these marvelous Pyrite/Calcite combinations from the Chenzhou area in Hunan Province, China. Crystalline white Calcite serves as a base for this extensive coating of glittering, golden and silvery Pyrite crystals. The sharply defined Pyrite cubes are a mm or so in size, with a mirror-like luster and bright, brassy color. As you move toward the edges of the field of Pyrites, the color and iridescence begin to change, adding tints of gold, silver, and green with hints of blue as well. It's a cacophony of colors and sparkles, and they create a lovely aesthetic for these well-known, desirable specimens. Orange-pink fluorescence, as well, for the Calcite.
