A gorgeous, sparkling Calcite cluster covering sparing matrix. The Katanga region in the DRC is well known for its Cobalt-bearing Calcites, which range from the lovely lemonade-pink in this cabinet piece to specimens with intense, magenta-pink color. The Calcites here are modified and complex, and the high luster complements the color beautifully. The intergrown crystals cover the matrix virtually edge-to-edge, creating an attractive, light-pink specimen that is easy on the eyes. Many pieces of this color came out in the 1980s, and this fine, aesthetic piece would have come from the Mashamba West Mine at the time. These are now "old modern" classics, and the color is something recognizable from yards away. Formerly in the collection of E.R. Laskowski.
