Unusual locality example for the species, bright crystallized native copper coming off of a small amount of matrix. Complete all around. These are not often seen available on the market. The Weyerhauser Mine in Douglas County, Wisconsin, was an ambitious copper exploration and extraction project that operated primarily during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Geologically, the site is situated within northern Wisconsin's Precambrian basaltic lava flows and trap rock ranges, where native copper occurs within fissure veins and amygdaloidal cavities. Despite exploratory shafts and intermittent work periods, the venture ultimately yielded only small amounts of copper ore and was closed and abandoned, leaving behind overgrown trenches and flooded test pits.
