A historic specimen of covellite, likely from prior to 1970, showing classic multi colored patina amidst a metallic complexity of blades shooting out every which way from this complicated and very three-dimensional cluster. Note the subtle details everywhere, in terms of slight outgrowths and patterning. It looks refined, rather than natural! Butte produced fabulous covellite of a variety of styles, of which we call this the "jackstraw habit" for lack of a better word. It is lightweight and gracile, so you can imagine how few have survived the decades. Although there is some damage, this is typical of this particular style of material, and can be accepted (at a price and size and visual quality). Unusually, this particular piece emphasizes gold tones and colors, whereas most are more hues of purple and blue.
