White blocky crystals of adularia hosting crystallized quartz and minor gypsum. In good condition. Classic material for the species and locality. The Valenciana Mine in Guanajuato, Mexico, targeting the legendary Mother Vein (Veta Madre), was officially opened in 1774 following major silver discoveries around 1750. It became one of the most productive silver mines in world history during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, producing a massive share of global silver. The mine experienced interruptions during the Mexican Revolution and various economic shifts, but parts of the historic complex were later reopened for tourism and modern regional extraction cooperatives continue working surrounding deeper reserves. Geologically, the deposit is a epithermal vein system hosted in rhyolites, shales, and andesites, characterized by silver sulfosalts, quartz, and calcite. The mine is famous for producing adularia, a low-temperature hydrothermal potassium feldspar variety historically referred to as valencianite, which occurs as distinctive crystals lining the rich silver-bearing veins.
