This specimen consists of an exceptionally transparent individual quartz crystal with a well-developed prismatic habit, occurring completely free of matrix as a true floater crystal. Its unattached condition exposes the entire crystal, allowing both its remarkable internal clarity and complex external morphology to be observed.
Its defining feature is the extraordinary development of natural dissolution etching across the crystal faces. The original surfaces have been extensively modified into a complex three-dimensional relief of recessed areas, angular depressions, stepped planes, and secondary negative features. Their geometry is distinctly crystallographically controlled rather than the product of random corrosion.
The morphology records a post-growth episode of differential dissolution, during which chemically active fluids selectively modified the pre-existing quartz surfaces while preserving the overall integrity of the crystal.
Particularly notable is the coexistence of this intense surface modification with exceptional internal transparency. The crystalline interior remains remarkably clear and optically open, creating a striking contrast with the intricately etched exterior.
The combination of true floater-crystal condition, outstanding clarity, and strongly developed crystallographically controlled dissolution etching makes this an exceptional example of quartz morphology from Pakistan.
