Classic stuff for this locality.The New Nevada Mine is part of the historic Batopilas Mining District located deep within the rugged canyons of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Chihuahua, Mexico. Mining in this legendary district dates back to its official discovery by the Spanish in 1632, with major periods of intense production occurring during the colonial era and later under the management of American industrialist Alexander Shepherd in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Geologically, the deposit is world-famous for being a rare type of five-element vein system where native silver occurs predominantly as irregular pods and spectacular crystalline growths hosted almost exclusively within a white calcite gangue. The New Nevada Mine specifically has gained modern renown among mineral collectors for producing exquisite, intricately etched specimens of native silver, frequently featuring unique herringbone and dendritic crystal forms.
