Previously from the collection of Wolfgang Henkel.The Baia Sprie mine, historically known as Felsobanya and located in Maramures County, Romania, is a legendary mining district with centuries of recorded history centered on the extraction of precious and base metals. Geologically, the area is situated within the Neogene volcanic belt of the Eastern Carpathians, characterized by complex epithermal vein systems hosted in volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Hydrothermal activity deposited a diverse array of sulfide and sulfosalt minerals. The underground workings are internationally celebrated by mineral collectors for producing magnificent, highly aesthetic crystal specimens, particularly exceptional associations of realgar, orpiment, stibnite, and various precious metal sulfosalts.Fizelyite is a rare sulfosalt mineral composed of lead, silver, antimony, and sulfur. It typically forms dark lead-gray to steel-gray metallic aggregates and prismatic crystals that often feature deep striations. Geologically, it is found in hydrothermal ore veins, where it forms at low to moderate temperatures in association with other lead and silver minerals such as galena, sphalerite, and semseyite. It is notably rare and occurs in only a few select mining localities worldwide, including regions in Romania, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
