Mimetite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
4.6 x 3.3 x 2.7 cm
This is a striking specimen presenting two hemispherical to globular botryoidal clusters of mimetite perched prominently on a dark, gossan matrix. The contrast between the pale yellow mimetite and the matrix is visually dramatic and very characteristic of Tsumeb oxidation zone material.
The mimetite forms rounded, cauliflower-like botryoidal aggregates composed of minute prismatic hexagonal crystals too small to resolve individually . All in all a simple, but highly aesthetic, example of Tsumeb beauty.
