Pyromorphite

Unknown Owner
A real German classic with lustrous prismatic crystals of pyromorphite measuring to 1.2 cm in length on matrix. Minimal damage present, I think that this is still in good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the early 20th century if not earlier. The Friedrichssegen Mine is a historic lead, silver, and zinc mine located at Friedrichssegen near Lahnstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Mining activity in the area dates back to at least 1220, though the modern mine developed after reorganization in 1852 and later expanded to include many shafts and underground workings. The deposit consisted mainly of siderite-quartz veins in Devonian schists containing galena, sphalerite, and other ore minerals. The mine was an important producer in the late 19th century but declined due to economic problems and closed permanently in the early 20th century. Today the site is inactive, and the local mining museum preserves specimens and historical information from the mine.
