Afghanite with Calcite and Pyrite

Perched aesthetically on its marble with pyrite matrix are a trio of excellent, well-formed afghanite crystals that are lustrous and translucent that exhibit a dark baby blue color with some whitish segregations. The largest crystal measures 3.7cm in length and the other two are 3 cm each with one being better formed than the other. All three are doubly terminated. This piece has great composition with the two best crystals front-and-center on the piece showing their excellent trigonal crystal forms. The third crystal is hidden behind the other two and is attached/intergrown with the matrix. These afghanites are quite unique with their lighter color accompanied by the darker to lighter variegations, their excellent crystal shape and aesthetic placement on the contrasting white calcite/marble matrix with disseminated, brassy yellow pyrite. Distinguished aesthetics make this specimen stand above most which is why Paul selected this for his private collection (purchased in 2005, among the earlier examples known). The afghanites have an orange fluorescence that add even more to their interest and quality. This is also the Type Locality for afghanite.
