Enargite with Famatinite
Unknown Owner
An interesting antique specimen from Hungary showing crystallized enargite on matrix with metallic famatinite. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video dating this to the very early 20th century.Lahoca Hill in Hungary, located near the Recsk mining district, is part of a significant hydrothermal mineral system associated with volcanic activity in the region. Mining activity in the area dates back to at least the 18th and 19th centuries, with later exploration revealing deeper porphyry copper style mineralization beneath the older workings. The geology consists of volcanic and intrusive rocks that were altered by metal rich fluids, forming veins and disseminated ore zones containing copper and associated minerals. Among the minerals found at Lahoca Hill is enargite, a copper arsenic sulfide that typically occurs as dark metallic crystals or granular masses within the ore. Enargite formed under high temperature hydrothermal conditions and is associated with other copper minerals in the deposit.
