Turquoise, 12 cm, from the Big Nugget mine, Esmeralda County, Nevada; collected on April 9, 2016. Collected by unnamed person. On this collecting trip, the collector was on their way home to Southern California and decided to stop by the mine after talking to the mine owner. The visit was short as it was late in the day. Only a few hours before sunset. The collector scoured the mine dumps to find turquoise or variscite. Found two large nodules covered in white clay, which turned out to be turquoise.
