Valentinite is an oxide mineral with the chemical formula Sb2O3. It typically forms as small, opaque crystals that can appear brownish to reddish in tone, with a blunt luster and a blocky, often stubby habit. In well-formed specimens, crystals may display subtle transparency at edges and a resinous to dull surface sheen, characteristic of many antimony oxides. Associations often include other oxide minerals and sulfide bearing assemblages, and specimens may occur in hydrothermal ore veins where antimony-bearing fluids crystallize upon cooler walls.

About Valentinite
Notable specimens have come from classic antimony localities in Bolivia, as well as mines in China and the Czech Republic, with samples from Germany and the United States also contributing to collections. Valentinite is valued for its compact, earthy to metallic appearance and its relative rarity compared with more common oxide minerals. Collectors seek clean, well-formed crystals and matrix pieces that clearly exhibit the mineral’s opaque, intently colored faces and compact form, which makes valentinite a sought-after addition to cabinet displays and mineral study.
