Larimar

1 in the gallery

Larimar is a blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite, distinguished by its distinctive Caribbean-blue color that ranges from pale sky blue to deeper azure with white patterns. It forms in volcanic host rocks and often presents a compact to fibrous habit in radiating aggregates, with a silky to vitreous luster that enhances its soft, oceanic appearance. Notable specimens come from the Dominican Republic, where hydrothermal activity in basaltic rocks has produced the concentration of blue pectolite that collectors seek.

About Larimar

Collectors prize Larimar for its striking color zoning and characteristic white dendritic inclusions, which yield patterns reminiscent of sea and sky. The material can be cut into cabochons and cabochon-like shapes to emphasize its color field and internal veining, making distinctive jewelry and display pieces. Though relatively rare outside its type locality, high-quality pieces from Dominican mines are particularly sought after for their clarity, color saturation, and pleasing translucency.
