Tsumeb mine is the undisputed premier world locality for crystallized Dioptase specimens, in large part for their perfection in crystal shape and exceptionally bright glassy lustre. But there are other factors too, such as their setting upon pale cream to white coloured Dolomite or Calcite providing a stunning contrast in colour as a backdrop. This wonderful miniature-sized Dioptase specimen from Tsumeb features excellent, super-gemmy intense emerald-green Dioptase crystals on Calcite, but it has the addition of pale green microcrystalline Duftite coating the Calcite in a combination which is unique to Tsumeb. The Dioptase crystals reach up to 4 mm in length and are extremely well-formed. Ex Hettrich Collection.
