Tucson, Arizona, USAHighly visible long bladed to prismatic metallic grey crystals of the extremely rare lead copper bismuth sulphide Aikinite, measuring to 3.2 cm in length, are embedded in white vein Quartz matrix with small areas of metallic yellow Native Gold also visible. From the Type Locality: Berezovskii mining area in Sverdlovskaya Oblast', Middle Urals, Russia this is clearly an old-time specimen. Named in 1843, after Dr Arthur Aikin, Secretary of the Geological Society of London, this mineral had in fact been known under different names since the very earliest years of the 19th century. Some of the Aikinite crystals show replacement by pastel green Chrysocolla, but overall this is an extremely rich example of this rare species from its Type Locality. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection.
