Compared to many, this is a rather small specimen of iron ore from Restormel Royal Iron mine at Lostwithiel in Cornwall, but this small miniature specimen is a very different class. Known by the varietal name, 'Wood Iron', the Goethite iron ore presents as a beautifully colour-zoned banded stalactite, or botryoidal aggregate, over which a fine layer of white druzy Quartz crystals has coated. Aesthetically this is a very fine Cornish miniature. Ex Glyn Cunnick Collection.
