It is not often that we see Ruby (a variety of Corundum) from China. This wonderful miniature crystallized specimen comes from Yuanjiang ruby mine in Yuanjiang County, Yuxi, Yunnan, China. Compared to most crystals of Ruby which we see as mineral specimens it has an extremely rich and intense pink-red colour and shows moderate translucency. It is an aggregate of several intergrown crystals and on one side the individual crystals are picked out magnificently by their stepped triangular growth lines. It is certainly a superb crystallized Ruby from anywhere, let alone from China.
