The phosphate rich assemblage at Indian Mountain, Cherokee County, Alabama, USA is one of the foremost localities for great Strengite crystals. The rare hydrated iron phosphate forms pale pink translucent to transparent highly elongated bladed orthorhombic crystals usually in flattened radiating sprays sandwiched in between iron oxides. This miniature specimen from David Hardman's collection features flattened Strengite sprays reaching 4 mm in diameter, some pale pink, but others apparently zoned, with orange bands. Indian Mountain featured in a number of articles in The Mineralogical Record during the 1970s and 1980s and it is during that time period that David Hardman probably acquired this specimen.
