Galena
Along with the rest of his well-curated and diverse collection, Dan Kennedy had a penchant for gorgeous Sulphide specimens, a class of minerals that is regrettably neglected by many despite their famous lusters and morphology. This specimen in particular is a fabulous cluster of unusually crystallized Galena from the Krushev dol Mine-arguably one of the best sources for highly lustrous Galena in the world. Every angle presents a three-dimensional, geometric landscape of incredibly sharp Galena crystals that are complete with the locality's signature mirror luster. While some of the crystals in this specimen are fairly blocky, most of the crystals are very thin, in some cases only having a thickness of 1 millimeter. Mainly seen on one side of the Galena are sharp associations of Quartz and a thin, highly contrasting layer of Calcite. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
