Wendwilsonite with Calcite$3,000.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Despite being named and described in 1987 it was not until the early 2000s that truly exceptional Wendwilsonite was found in one of the mines (Aghbar mine) in the Co-Type district (Bou Azer District) where it was first found. This very displayable large miniature specimen is from that find at Aghbar mine and presents the most incredible colour imaginable. With an intensity and vibrancy like the very best Erythrite from Morocco it is clear that although cobalt is not fundamental to the structure of Wendwilsonite, it is fundamental to producing this spectacular colour variant, even with just traces of cobalt. This wonderful specimen is quite large compared to many seen from this find and at 6 x 2.5 cm, the main cavity containing Wendwilsonite is highly prominent, especially against the backdrop of massive white Calcite matrix. The individual crystals reach over 4 mm in size, many of which are perfectly-formed sharp, glassy, monoclinic blades with amazing colour intensity. There are some damaged crystals, but this is still a magnificent display for such a rare species. Colourful, rare and spectacular. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
