Description
Köttigite is a rare zinc arsenate hydroxide species. Not renowned for its aesthetics, it does form fine radiating sprays of bladed crystals at Ojuela mine, but these tend to be of a greyish colour. This small miniature specimen features several well-formed divergent sprays of Köttigite crystals, the largest to 6 mm across. They are sat upon a mottled orange and white microbotryoidal crust composed of unidentified phases. Although the crystals are small, they are good for this very rare species, which is never normally found in anything more than microcrystals, other than at Ojuela mine. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
