Description
This stunning cabinet-sized Wulfenite is from the world famous Erupción mine, Los Lamentos, Mexico. Broadly triangular in shape, this plate-like specimen features an abundance of classic Erupción mine thick, but not blocky, burnt orange Wulfenite crystals with a fine resinous to greasy lustre. These crystals are all around the 1 cm on edge size and form a remarkable interlocking display. Sitting mostly upright, or at an oblique angle to the surface, these crystals really do look the business, displaying extremely well with virtually no damage except around the periphery of the specimen. The Erupción mine first produced Wulfenite specimens in the 1920s with collecting continuing through to the 1960s. After that, smaller quantities of smaller, but high quality specimens were recovered in discrete intervals including in 1968, 1976 and lastly during the 1980s. It is not known during which period this specimen was collected, but it is of the top end of quality for colour, crystal size and aesthetics.
